Frameless Cabinet Construction

Construction Methods

Frameless Cabinet Construction

European-style engineering for maximum space, clean lines, and modern performance — the foundation of every Cabworx kitchen.

What Is Frameless

Full-access construction without the face frame

Frameless cabinets — also called full-access or European-style — eliminate the traditional face frame that sits on the front of the cabinet box. Doors and drawers mount directly to the sides of the box, creating a full-overlay design with minimal gaps.

This construction method originated in post-war Europe where material efficiency and modern aesthetics drove innovation. Today, it’s the preferred method for premium cabinetry worldwide — and it’s the primary construction style at Cabworx.

Our frameless boxes are CNC-machined from furniture-grade plywood or maple melamine, with precisely bored hinge plates and shelf-pin holes. The result is a cabinet that’s structurally rigid, dimensionally accurate, and maximizes every cubic inch of interior space.

Comparison

Frameless vs. framed construction

Frameless (full-access)

  • Full-overlay doors with minimal reveal
  • More usable interior space (no frame blocking access)
  • Cleaner, more contemporary aesthetic
  • Wider drawer boxes for more storage
  • Easier access to interior organizers and pull-outs

Face-frame (traditional)

  • Visible frame around door openings
  • Traditional or cottage aesthetic
  • Required for inset door styles
  • Structural rigidity from hardwood frame
  • Narrower drawer openings due to frame

Cabworx builds in all three construction styles — frameless, framed, and inset — so your cabinetry matches the architecture and style of your home. Visit our Build page to explore all options.

Materials

What goes inside the box

Every Cabworx frameless cabinet starts with premium box materials chosen for durability, moisture resistance, and clean aesthetics.

Furniture-grade plywood cabinet box material

Furniture-grade plywood

Our standard — 3/4" plywood with hardwood veneer faces. Strong, stable, and resistant to warping. Ideal for kitchens and high-moisture environments.

Maple melamine cabinet box material

Maple melamine

Thermally fused melamine on particleboard with maple grain. Smooth, wipeable interior surfaces that resist staining and scratching.

White melamine cabinet box material

White melamine

Bright, clean interior that reflects light and makes contents easy to see. A popular choice for pantries and utility cabinets.
